TIS’ THE SEASON TO RESCUE
As this year slowly comes to an end
(or quickly for some),
let’s reflect on stories of TMAR rescues
and the wonderful people with big hearts……..
From Karen (Watson TMAR Walker)
Watson is a goofy, fun, talented, athletic big boy! My daughter and I are so lucky to have such a sweet boy!
Here he is when he was rescued in September of 2023.
Karen adopted him in December of that year.

Watson turned out to be an excellent rat finder in the barn hunt where he’s already in the Masters Level (up to 5 rats and you have to say out loud when you think he has found them all). He’s in Level 4 in Hide n Seek. He’s also beginning his agility career and I have high hopes for such an athletic guy! |
He already has several runs in CPE (Canine Performance Events) and is trying NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council) agility.
At home he is a complete cuddle-bug who loves to chew on his toys and bark at the UPS truck.

From Paula (Macy TMAR Sparkie)
I recently had back surgery and left Macy with friends while I had my initial recovery. I missed her so much!
So it was nice when I got her back!
Wouldn’t you know it? As soon as she settled in, I said:
“Hey Macy, do you want to watch a movie with me on the bed?”
She went and grabbed her snack and we watched a cozy holiday movie together.
My recovery already seems so much easier. I knew she had rescued me after all.

From Julie and Bill (Nasya TMAR Valerie)
Nasya (Valerie) was rescued by Keith September 12, 2023. Estimated at the age of two, she was starving, skin and bones, neglected and abused.
Through all of this we knew she had the best heart. Why?
Because she wasn’t only nursing and keeping alive her 5 babies, but also 5 babies more from another dog, on the property, who had been killed.
Lots of small steps after we brought her home on October 19, 2023.
She was scared….
Everything was new to her….

Within 24 hours my husband sent me a message that Nasya and Aspen, our other dog, were playing.
She became my ‘velcro’ dog quickly. With Bill the relationship took longer as suspected maybe a male had abused her. It took over a month to not have to chase her around the house to get a collar on her and a couple of months to pet her head as it scared her.

She is now the best girl. Loves and annoys her sister Aspen.
Nasya goes on adventures to Lake Michigan and most recently our cabin in Iowa.
Nasya is very vocal and definitely doesn’t hesitate to let us know if supper is 5 minutes late.
We are so blessed for her to be a part of our family. She’s a happy full figured beautiful girl. We are so grateful to Keith and TMAR for saving her and her babies and countless others.
Nasya in Hebrew means God’s Miracle, which she is and why we chose that name.

From Foster Mom Cindy (TMAR Hank)
When Hank came home as my foster, he did not want to come out of his crate. My heart was broken. I wasn’t sure what to do and decided to ‘channel’ Keith and what he does for the pups.
I spoke softly and bribed him with treats. Eventually, I was able to get Hank out of his crate and slowly get him comfortable with life in a house.
After a few days when he laid on my lap and looked up at me, I realized the importance of the moment. He found trust in me.
That is what fostering is all about
………………………….
From Foster Parents Ben and Pia (TMAR Memphis)
We have been fostering for four years and currently have Memphis.
We have taught Memphsis to scale the ‘Catholic Rock’.
Near our house is a Catholic Church, which has a large boulder in the yard.
When we walk that way, Memphis will pull excitedly toward the rock.
Upon reaching it, he will climb up …. He can jump to the top but he prefers to effortlessly climb. Once atop he waits patiently for a treat. |
Building on his rock-climbing skills, we have also taught him to scale picnic tables and spools. We are sure whoever adopts him will find these skills very humorous and helpful. |

We have more great and heart warming stories next month.

WAIT!
You are probably wondering about rescue cat stories.
We have a special one:
Tux and Shadow entered the shelter on December 22, 2024. The sisters are still with us. They are being fostered by Amy, a wonderful, caring TMAR volunteer.
They are looking for their forever home.
Could you be that home?
From Foster Mom Amy (TMAR Tux and Shadow)
They are gorgeous kitties…. Soft black fur coats with white accents in Tux’s fur.
Independent? Yes…. Tux will snuggle with me but she took a long time to learn to trust. Shadow will allow us to pet her but rarely does she sit with us. She will still be in the same room as us, though, as if she wants to be there with us. Maybe because the sisters were on their own for the first 3 months of their lives.
When I got them, I could not touch them. Trying to get them for their vaccinations was traumatic for us all.
They are bonded kitties…. Tux and Shadow watch out for each other. When one squeaks the other comes running to see what’s up. They share a Churu snack every night and love to snuggle together. |
Smart? You bet…. Tux and Shadow know when it’s dinner time and Churu snack time. They come running when we call: “Tuxie kitty and Shadow kitty” They also let us know when those times are.
Curious? The most…. Tux and Shadow love to look outside. This summer, the neighbors had a tree removed and the sisters watched the removal for over an hour, didn’t even move.
Tux and Shadow like to play with wand toys and springs. Shadow’s favorite toy is a yellow duck, which she likes to throw in the air and chase. |
They need a home where they are the only animals and they need humans who are willing to appreciate who they are. I think they will flourish in a home with no children or older children that will let them be. |
I really do believe there is a caring home out there that will bring in the sisters and adopters who will love to watch them be themselves.

He is good with dogs, and children over 12. Not sure about cats. Loves to travel and walk on a lead. He is crate trained. |

HOW TO ADOPT
Our rescue is volunteer-based. We rely heavily on our fosters. Most of our animals are adopted out of foster homes. Currently most of our fosters are in the Fargo and Grand Forks area of North Dakota.
We highly encourage you to apply NOW so that you can
be pre-approved for future TMAR animals!

TMAR operates in an underserved community where veterinary access is sparse and local animals are in desperate need of a helping hand. We work hand in hand with our community to save thousands of animals each year. We are nothing without our community, our volunteers and our supporters.
Every dollar you donate will go towards providing vaccinations, mange and flea and tick treatments, paying for vet bills, gas for transports, food for the animals, and our biggest goal, a shelter. You can donate financially:
