TMAR Adoption Process
Please read through the adoption process carefully before submitting an application.
Step 1 - Submit an Adoption Application
To become an approved cat or kitten adopter, please click on the link and submit your application, for both in and out of state adopters. There is no fee to apply. If you know the cat or kitten you are interested in, please list their name. If you are unsure, our team will work to find you the perfect match for your family. Also be prepared to list two non-familial references on the application.
Once your application has been received, a TMAR cat adoption volunteer will contact you via phone to discuss your application, usually within 2-3 days. Our rescue is volunteer-based, with volunteers working from all areas of the country, so the call may come from an out of state areas code.
If you do not own your own home, you will need to provide a copy of your lease. This must include the pet policy portion and any additional documentation specific to emotional support animal or service animals if applicable. TMAR does follow city ordinances in regarding number of pets allowed.
For the safety of all animals involved, if you have current pets, you will need to provide vet records to validate their vaccinations and proof of spay / neuter. We require all current animals to be spayed / neutered unless not of age or valid medical reason.
If you are approved to adopt a TMAR animal but did not get the animal you initially requested, we will keep your application on file. Should an animal come up for adoption in the future, you do not need to re-apply, just send us an email to tmarcatadoptions@gmail.com letting us know.
Step 2 - approved adopter & Meet and Greet
Once approved, our adoption team will work to match you up to the perfect cat or kitten for your home. Some of our cats and kittens are bonded pairs and they will not be adopted separately. We will do our best to partner with approved adopters to ensure the cat or kitten will be successful in the home and it is an appropriate match.
You will be connected to the foster of the cats or kittens you are interested in to answer any questions you may have and to ensure the cat or kitten will be a good fit. They can also coordinate an in-person or virtual Meet and Greet. TMAR has resources to work with you as an adopter to make sure your new cat or kitten integrates into your home and with your current animals. We will be happy to talk about those options. Typically, most of our adoptable animals are in the Fargo and Grand Forks area. It is the responsibility of the adopter to provide transportation to come and meet the animal of interest and provide transportation for adoptions.
Step 3 - Pay The Adoption Donation
Once you have taken possession of your perfect feline companion, an adoption team member will send you an adoption fee invoice via email. Adoption fees go directly into the rescue and are used for vetting and continuing our efforts to save more lives.
Unfixed Kittens & Cats: Adoption cost is $45
Fixed Kittens & Cats: Adoption cost is $95.
Kittens can be adopted at the age of 8 weeks old. All our cats and kittens come with their required medical treatments appropriate for their age at the time of adoption. If the animal is not spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, we require any animals adopted from us to be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age and proof sent back to TMAR. By signing the adoption contract, you agree to have your animal spayed or neutered at a veterinarian of your choosing.
Out of State Adoption Fee is $65
If you are adopting out of the state of North Dakota, animals are required to have a veterinary exam and certification of their health. The additional out of state adoption fee is directly to off-set this veterinary exam.
The cat adoption team has options to assist adopters from states across the country in adopting a feline companion from TMAR. If you live a significant distance from North Dakota, please contact the cat adoption team at tmarcatadoptions@gmail.com to discuss options, including our partnership with some airlines on their flight angel programs. Flight programs fly cats and kittens with a flight angel in the main cabin. These do carry an additional cost to adopters.
We're so excited for you to embark on your journey to adopt a TMAR animal.
